Singapore’s Strategic Marine has signed an agreement with U.S.-based Eureka Naval Craft for the joint construction of the multipurpose Aircat Bengal MC, an air-cushion vessel designed to meet the naval needs of the Indo-Pacific region.

The model was developed for fast-attack operations, coastal reconnaissance, and mine-sweeping, offering a more agile and cost-effective solution compared to traditional corvettes and frigates.

Technical characteristics

The Aircat Bengal is 36 meters long, reaches speeds of up to 50 knots, and has an operational range of 1,000 nautical miles, with a payload capacity of over 40 tons.

The vessel is equipped with the automated GAMA system by Greenroom Robotics, which also enables unmanned operations.

Modular versatility

One of the craft’s main differentiators is its universal modular compartment, which allows reconfiguration within hours for different missions:

  • Launch of guided missiles;
  • Deployment of UAVs and reconnaissance drones;
  • Electronic warfare operations;
  • Mine-sweeping;
  • Transport of humanitarian cargo.

Target market: Southeast Asian navies

According to the companies involved, the platform is aimed at the navies and maritime agencies of Southeast Asia — such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam — which seek rapidly deployable, discreet, and modular forces.

The craft was also designed to operate in the so-called “grey zone,” the phase preceding open conflict, where discretion and operational flexibility are required.

Regional strategy

With the growing geopolitical contest in the Indo-Pacific, the Aircat Bengal emerges as an efficient, low-cost alternative to larger vessels, expanding deterrence and patrol options for countries in the region.
